Doctoral Induction Events 2026

Details of doctoral induction events for students starting in September/October 2026.

We are very pleased to welcome you to Bath. There are a range of sessions and activities that are designed to help you get your studies off to the best possible start.

You will be able to access the booking link for events once you have completed registration.

Department and programme induction events

Doctoral welcome reception

This will take place on Tuesday 06 October 16:00 - 18:30 in the Claverton Rooms.

An opportunity to meet and find out about doctoral groups and networks, find out about central services, hear talks from different members of our University community, network with other new doctoral researchers and enjoy complimentary drinks and refreshments.

Welcome workshops

A series of 5 workshops to help you get started on the essentials. Attendance is mandatory at these workshops. Please check back here for the booking link. Bookings open Monday 07 September 2026.

These sessions will be followed by an opportunity to ask questions and discuss the topics.

Each session is has different options, to allow flexibility. You should only book and attend one of each session.

Workshop 1: Establishing expectations in supervision:

Your supervisor is one of the most important resources provided to you by the University to support you to complete your research successfully. Getting the supervisory relationship off to a good start is essential in a doctorate programme, requiring clarification of roles, expectations, responsibilities and behaviours.

Workshop 2: Preparing for agreement of expectations:

Wednesday 07 October 2026 14:15-16:05 in 10 West 2.47 or Friday 09 October 2026 10:15-12:05 online

This session will provide information and guidance on starting your doctorate programme at the University of Bath. It will also involve guidance on completing your agreement of expectations form, and will help you to conduct an initial review of your current and required skills in relation to the Researcher Development Framework (RDF). This will help you to identify which development activities to engage with during your doctorate and what to list on your agreement of expectations form.

SU 'fresher's week'

As well as these compulsory events, you can also get involved in optional activities run by The SU. These include events specifically for postgraduates. Many of these are free to join.
