Aims
The aim of this unit is to enable students to produce a professional practice portfolio within which they will identify and develop ongoing learning needs in order to acquire the necessary skills and experience to apply their football medicine knowledge to a clinical setting. This will be achieved using reflective practice and continuing education experiences, as required by professional bodies. The unit draws on skills acquired through clinical experience and academic development in the other units of the Football Medicine programme.
Learning outcomes
On successful completion of this unit students will be able to:
- Plan and manage independent learning and develop sustainable strategies for lifelong learning and future professional development
- Develop evidence-based rehabilitation programmes for athletes or patients in conjunction with other health professionals and coaches
- Demonstrate an understanding of the role and responsibilities of the various clinicians within a multi-disciplinary team to athletes in the sport environment
- Communicate effectively through the development of positive and supporting relationships with patient/client groups and other health professionals
- Critically appraise, consolidate and apply knowledge gained in this and other modules in the management of a broad range of sport and exercise conditions.

Aims
This unit aims to support students in developing their practice experience and clinical examination skills through taught clinical weeks of study and self-directed learning, and in acquiring the necessary skills and experience to apply their Football Medicine knowledge to a clinical setting. The unit draws on skills acquired through clinical experience and academic development in the other units of the Football Medicine programme.
Learning outcomes
On successful completion of this unit students will be able to:
- Competently carry out a sports-specific musculoskeletal clinical history and examination and reach appropriate diagnostic conclusions
- Critically appraise and clinically apply appropriate investigations within a consultation
- Develop evidence-based rehabilitation programmes for injured athletes or patients in conjunction with other health professionals and coaches
- Work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team to provide sport and exercise medicine services to a clinic of team
- Communicate effectively through the development of positive and supporting relationships with patient/client groups and other health professionals
- Develop and demonstrate clinical competence in the medical management of team support including the planning and preparation of team travel and the application of doping infringement legislation
- Provide emergency care to those engaged in football as elite and recreational athletes
- Critically appraise, consolidate and apply knowledge gained in this and other modules in the management of a broad range of sport & exercise conditions
- Evaluate the role of practical sports science as applied to Football Medicine
