This privacy notice explains how the BSW Research Hub, collects, manages, and uses your personal data before, during and after you become a public contributor.
‘Personal data’ means any information relating to an identified or identifiable natural person (the data subject).
This privacy notice adheres to the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) principle of transparency. This means it gives information about:
- how and why your data will be used
- what your rights are under GDPR
- how to contact BSW Research Hub in relation to questions, concerns or exercising your rights regarding the use of your personal data
Why are we processing your personal data?
As a data controller we are committed to protecting the privacy and security of your personal data in accordance with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR), the Data Protection Act 2018 (or any successor legislation) and any other legislation directly relating to privacy laws that apply (together “the Data Protection Legislation”).
How are we processing your personal data?
We will only process your personal data when the law allows us to. In addition, we will always comply with the University of Bath's policies and procedures in processing your personal data.
Firstly, thank you for providing information about yourself. We collect and use your personal information with your permission in order to contact you throughout your involvement as a public contributor.
Our lawful basis for using your personal data is public task. We will always tell you about the information we wish to collect from you and how we will use it. BSW Research adheres to the principles of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
What data do we collect?
We only collect personal data that allows us to contact you throughout your involvement as a public contributor and allows us to reimburse you for activities you undertake as a public contributor.
Who do we share your data with?
We do not disclose your personal data to anyone, unless we have asked your permission to do so.
How do we keep your data secure?
We will use all reasonable endeavours to ensure that personal data provided is handled in a secure and confidential manner. When the data is no longer needed it will be destroyed.
We have put in place appropriate physical, electronic and managerial procedures to safeguard the personal data we collect in order to prevent unauthorised access, maintain data accuracy, and ensure the correct use of data.
How long do we keep your data for?
Your personal information will be kept until your are no longer a public contributor, at which point we will permanently remove your details from the database.
Your consent
By providing us with your personal data, including sensitive personal data, such as data on your health, you consent to the collection and use of any data you provide in accordance with the above purposes and this Privacy Notice.
What are your rights?
At any time you can:
- gain access to the personal data which BSW Research Hub holds about you
- have your personal data rectified if it is inaccurate or incomplete
- restrict the processing of your personal data, for example, ask us not to contact you
- object to the processing of your data for specific purposes such as communications
- ask for the transfer of your data electronically to a third party – this could be yourself (known as data portability)
- have your personal data removed (known as Erasure or the ‘right to be forgotten’)
- lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO)
- control your personal data
We follow the data protection principles specified in the General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) and the Data Protection Bill 2018. Personal data is processed in accordance with these principles.
You can change how we contact you or discuss our use of your personal data at any time, simply by contacting us.
What are your responsibilities?
You may choose to share your contact details with other public contributors during meetings and this is up to you. It is important that you do not share the personal details of anyone else. Sharing of the personal details of other people should only be done by the BSW Research Hub. You must also respect the privacy of what others share during meetings and will not disclose private or personal information shared within meetings.
