Prayank Jain and Dr Fatih Birol are one of 30 pairs of youth climate leaders and climate experts from across the world matched for 1-2-1 conversations as part of this year’s ActNowFilm.

ActNowFilm: youth climate leaders in conversation with climate experts is an international youth voices in climate change project, selected to showcase at COP28. The film is based on 1-2-1 conversations between 30 pairs of youth climate leaders and world leading climate experts.

Prayank Jain is an upcoming leader and expert in climate diplomacy, social impact, human security, and sustainable thinking. A lawyer and non-profit sector professional, he has worked with leading organisations in India, the United States, and with global networks. He was most recently the Special Assistant to the CEO at the Council on Energy, Environment and Water (CEEW), India’s leading international climate think tank. He is a lead author of the Stockholm+50 scientific report, and manages international projects and relationships.

Prayank’s interests include international law and governance, negotiations, climate policy, and migration. He has consulted for diverse organisations: Namati, UNITAR, Congress of Nations and States, Green Pro Bono, Jan Sahas, and the Fletcher School. He began his career with the International Advocacy team at the Commonwealth Human Rights Initiative (CHRI) in New Delhi, and has been an adjunct faculty and moot court trainer with law schools in India.

Prayank holds a Master of International Law (LL.M.) from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University in the USA. He completed his undergraduate legal studies from Symbiosis International University in India, and holds a diploma in Comparative European Law from the Indian Society of International Law (ISIL), New Delhi. He has represented India at international moot court competitions and won Best Memorial awards at the Nelson Mandela Human Rights Moot in Geneva, the Stetson International Environmental Moot in Florida, and the National Maritime Arbitration Moot in Odisha.

Dr Fatih Birol has served as Executive Director of the International Energy Agency since 2015. Under his leadership, the IEA has moved to the forefront of global efforts to reach international climate goals, safeguard energy security and manage the social and economic impacts of clean energy transitions.

Dr Birol took up his current position after rising through the ranks of the IEA, starting as a junior analyst in the mid-1990s and eventually serving as Chief Economist responsible for the IEA’s flagship World Energy Outlook. Dr Birol has been named in the TIME100, TIME's annual list of the world's most influential people. He has also been named by Forbes as one of the most influential people in the world of energy and by the Financial Times as the Energy Personality of the Year. He chairs the World Economic Forum’s (Davos) Energy Advisory Board.

Before the IEA, Dr Birol worked at the Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) in Vienna. He earned a BSc degree in power engineering from the Technical University of Istanbul and received an MSc and PhD in energy economics from the Technical University of Vienna. He is an honorary life member of Galatasaray Football Club.
