The Faculty of Humanities & Social Sciences comprises six departments:
- Economics
- Education
- Health
- Politics, Languages & International Studies
- Psychology
- Social & Policy Sciences
Studying with us
Students that study with us benefit from the strong interdisciplinary research collaboration between our departments. We currently support the largest student intake at the University, with:
- over 3,000 undergraduate students
- 1,500 postgraduate taught students
- 350 research students
Our diverse range of graduate programmes and pathways at masters and doctorate level are offered through the Humanities & Social Sciences Graduate School. Students benefit from access to a portfolio of essential research skills training, as well as the opportunity to contribute to the multidisciplinary academic community.
Learning and teaching
We have a strong commitment to furthering learning and teaching within our Faculty. We frequently engage with our students and seek to build upon our success through listening to their experiences.
Research
Research is central to the work of our Faculty. Many of our 160 academic staff are involved with a range of research projects.
Our total research income for the 2010 academic year totalled £3.9 million.
