Professor Chris Martin Inaugural Lecture: Monetary Policy and the Financial Crisis
03 December 2010
The Financial Crisis that
began in the summer of 2007 has had a profound effect on economics, politics and public policy; and
is set to dominate the next few years.
This lecture addresses the Financial Crisis, considering the underlying causes, symptoms and
long-term effects. It focuses on the role of policymakers, asking whether they should have
prevented the crisis, analysing their response once the crisis began and considering what the
crisis implies for monetary policy and the future of inflation targeting.
