Postgraduate students and staff from across the Faculty's six departments celebrated in style, with BUCS technician Julian Sims and the Hot Dog Jackson band providing the entertainment.

Professor James Copestake, the Faculty's Associate Dean (Graduate School), welcomed the guests and praised the Faculty's Graduate School team for their hard work over the past year.

In its inaugural year, the Graduate School has launched the South West Doctoral Training Centre, in collaboration with the Universities of Bristol and Exeter, securing seven Economics & Social Research Council (ESRC) research studentships for the University for 2011/12 as a result.

It has developed common admissions and progression procedures across the six Departments to improve the service provided to postgraduate research and taught students.

The Graduate School is also working closely with the Departments and the Researcher Development Unit to ensure research postgraduate students benefit from a comprehensive programme of research skills training, and to integrate the students more closely, both academically and socially.
