Current Project

Sabbatical Leave

Dr Kelle will be on sabbatical leave from February 2013 to January 2014, during which time he will be working for the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, based in The Hague.


Dr Alexander Kelle joined the Department in September 2007 as Lecturer in Politics and International Relations. He received his PhD from J.W. Goethe University in Frankfurt/Main in 1996.

Before coming to Bath he held positions at Queen’s University Belfast, University of Bradford, Stanford University, and the Peace Research Institute Frankfurt.

He lectures on International Relations, International Security, and Foreign Policy Analysis.

In December 2012, Dr Kelle was invited by the Director General of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons in The Hague to join the organisation's newly created Office of Strategy and Policy.  The University has granted him a twelve months unpaid leave of absence, starting in February 2013, for this purpose.

Research interests

Research interests include:

  • International security regimes
  • US foreign and security policy
  • International humanitarian law


Dr Kelle will be on sabbatical leave from February 2013 until January 2014, and will therefore not be available to teach his postgraduate unit on Foreign Policy Analysis in Semester 2 of the academic year 2012-13.
