Profile

Dr. Renate Rechtien is Lecturer in German Studies. She graduated from the University of London, Goldsmiths College, where she also carried out research towards a PhD awarded in 1997. 

Before joining the Department, she was full-time Lecturer at Heriott-Watt University, Edinburgh. She is a qualified Interpreter and Translator who worked as a Freelance Translator, Writer and Sub-Editor in publishing for many years in London before joining academic life.

She teaches German Cultural Studies and German Politics to first and second year students, is unit convenor of Culture and National Identity in the final year of undergraduate level, and she co-teaches in Gender in Politics in Europe. She also teaches a national option in German on Multicultural Germany.
