Bath Insights connects talented University of Bath undergraduates with meaningful projects across faculties, departments and professional services. Over eight weeks, interns work on projects that address real University priorities while developing valuable professional experience.

For departments, Bath Insights provides dedicated project capacity, fresh thinking and tangible outputs on projects that are important but often difficult to prioritise alongside day-to-day responsibilities, and that continue to deliver value long after the internship ends.

Interns have supported projects involving:

  • data analysis and insight generation
  • student experience
  • accessibility and inclusion
  • service improvement
  • research and benchmarking
  • digital innovation
  • communications and engagement

Whether you're exploring a new idea, improving an existing service, or tackling a project backlog, a Bath Insights intern can help turn plans into action.

Gain valuable student insight

Our students bring more than additional capacity.

As current members of the University community, they offer authentic perspectives, fresh ideas and a unique understanding of the student experience.

Louise Sansam, ResLife Marketing Communications and Events Manager & intern manager 2026

‘[We saw] someone come in with little or no knowledge of the area and then develop, creating a piece of work that will be incredibly valuable to us.’

Investment

What does it cost? The estimated cost of hosting a Bath Insights intern in 2027 is £4,676 (based on the midpoint of a Grade 2 role at 2025/26 rates), this covers an eight-week full-time internship.

Departments consistently tell us that the value delivered through completed projects, additional capacity and fresh thinking significantly outweighs the investment.

What makes a successful project?

Projects do not need to be fully developed before submission. The Bath Insights team can help shape and refine ideas.

The strongest Bath Insights projects are:

  • meaningful and purposeful
  • linked to departmental priorities
  • deliverable within eight weeks
  • focused on a tangible outcome
  • designed to give students ownership and autonomy

The programme is not intended to absorb existing ad hoc and temporary employment opportunities, and instead is designed to bring valuable student insight to meaningful projects.
