My Employability Profile

My Employability Profile helps you understand key employability capabilities, build a profile of your skills, and access resources to develop those skills.

My Employability Profile is an online tool that sits in Unihub alongside MySkills and MyFuture. It bridges the gap between developing your academic skills to succeed at university, and the information you need to successfully apply for a graduate role, internship, or placement.

It is open to all graduates and current students at the university. It can - and should - be used by everyone. It doesn't matter what course you're on, what year of study you're in, or whether you're learning on campus or remotely. The tool is built to be relevant to, and usable by, everyone.

Whether you have a very clear idea about your career path, or you're still considering all of your options, My Employability Profile will help you build a portfolio of skills that employers value.

How to use My Employability Profile

My Employability Profile is composed of four main components. You can dip in and out of each, but if you're just getting started we recommend using it in this order:

1. Explore the capabilities

Find out more about the 13 capabilities we know employers value. Watch a video or read our explanation about each capability, and identify from there the ones you'd like to develop further.

2. Find events and resources

When you know which capabilities you'd like to work on, click through to find events and resources that will help you develop your skills in that area.

3. Add experiences

When you have read the relevant resource, or attended the event, come back and add it as an experience. Record the type of experience it was, the date you completed it, and write a short reflection on what you learned and how it has helped you.

4. Review your progress

As you add experiences, your progress will be recorded and your status for each capability will change. You can then identify where you are making progress and what you should work on next.

Logging in to My Employability Profile is easy. Click the link below and add it to your favourites so that it's easy to find whenever you need it. If you're having trouble logging in, please email us at employability@bath.ac.uk.

Adding experiences to your profile

You can add all sorts of experiences to your profile.

You can choose what experiences you add to your profile. You might include:

online courses you've completed (such as LinkedIn Learning)
work experience and / or paid employment
volunteering
working as a student leader or SU society member
meetings, presentations, and other achievements you have gained on placement

Anything you've done whilst a student at Bath can be added. All actions you take that have supported the development of your employability skills should be added to your profile. When you log these as 'experiences', you will move the dial on your progress and further build your profile.

Come to a drop-in

If you're not sure how to get started, or have some questions about building your profile, you can come to a drop-in which run regularly during term-time and are for all students. They take place on campus in the Careers Centre. We are happy to answer any questions and if you can't make it to a drop-in, you can email us instead at employability@bath.ac.uk.

How to use your profile

Your profile is your own personal library of experiences and actions you've taken to develop your employability. No one else can see what you have added, unless you choose to share it with them.

Your profile is private, unless you choose to share it with someone. You can use your profile in a number of ways:

1. Print it to show an employer

You might want to print out your profile and take that with you to an interview or assessment centre. Rather than just saying that you have a particular skill, you can demonstrate how you have developed that skill and what you learned from your experiences.

2. Use it to write your CV

If you are composing your CV, you might want to include a section on your training and professional development. You can use your profile as a reminder of the events and workshops you have attended, and use the titles and dates of the experiences you have added to compile this.

3. Use it as a framework for applications and covering letters

You can use your profile as a scaffold when you are writing a covering letter or responding to a question on an application form. For example, you might want to demonstrate your commitment to sustainability in your application. You can refer back to your profile to remind yourself of the workshops and resources you used to develop your sustainability advocacy skills, and use the experiences and reflections you wrote at the time as a framework for your answer:

Certification of your experiences

My Employability Profile is not a competition or an award. It's a tool for you to track your development and progress against the 13 capabilities we know employers value. Your profile is private to you, and we're not able to quality assure or review your experiences; if you would like a certificate that endorses your skill development, we recommend that you complete the Bath Award.

The Capabilities Framework

My Employability Profile is built on the Capabilities Framework. This is a set of 13 capabilities we know employers value in graduates. Using the framework, and the language we have assigned to each capability, will help you stand out to employers and help them match your skills to their requirements.
