My Employability Profile: Resources for staff

Access information and resources to help you understand, and support students to use, My Employability Profile.

Every member of staff can support and encourage students to use My Employability Profile.

My Employability Profile is the University's employability development tool, available to all students through UniHub. It helps students recognise, develop and track their skills across 13 employability capabilities that employers consistently value, including communication, collaboration, leadership, professionalism, resilience and digital literacy.

Why My Employability Profile matters

My Employability Profile helps students understand key employability capabilities, build a profile of their skills, and access resources to develop those skills.

Students can use My Employability Profile to record experiences from across their time at Bath, including academic projects, placements, part-time work, volunteering, society involvement, leadership roles and extracurricular activities. It provides a structured way for students to reflect on their development and better articulate their skills when applying for opportunities.

It is an online tool that sits in Unihub alongside MySkills and MyFuture. It bridges the gap between developing the academic skills needed to succeed at university, and the information students need to successfully apply for a graduate role, internship, or placement.

Why staff engagement is important

We've received feedback indicating that some students either aren't aware of My Employability Profile or only discover it late in their degree. As colleagues who regularly engage with students, you play an important role in helping us ensure students are aware of the opportunities and support available to them.

We know that students who are advised and guided by academic staff to use the tools and services available to them, are more likely to do so.

Downloadable resources

To help you talk to students about My Employability Profile, and support them if they have questions, the following resources are available:

  • introductory slides for use in inductions, or when introducing projects or work that students would benefit from adding to My Employability Profile
  • email copy you can send to students at any point in the academic year
  • text you can add to your Moodle page to help students access it quickly and easily alongside other resources

All of the above is available in our My Employability Profile: Downloadable resources page.

Helping students develop their capabilities

As well as sharing information about My Employability Profile with students, you may also wish to directly support them to develop their employability capabilities.

Our Employability capabilities: Information for staff page provides an outline of the 13 capabilities, how these are described to students, and crucially how as a member of staff you can help students develop these capabilities over time.

Drop-in schedule

The Employability and Student Success team runs regular drop-ins for both students and staff to come along and ask any questions they have about My Employability Profile. They all take place in the Careers Centre, WH 2.24.

If you're unable to attend a drop-in, but have questions, please get in touch via email at employability@bath.ac.uk.

Join our mailing list

We have set up a new mailing list dedicated to employability updates for staff. By sharing key information throughout the academic year directly with staff, we are aiming to ensure everyone is aware of the centrally-led employability initiatives that are available to all students, including My Employability Profile.

By joining the mailing list, you won't need to worry about missing key dates or initiative updates, and we'll send tips on how to use key tools so that you can support your students to succeed at and beyond university.

Emails will be sent when we have something relevant to share. Emails may be more frequent at some points in the year than at others. You can unsubscribe at any time if you don't want to continue to hear from us.

If you'd like us to add you to the mailing list, please email employability@bath.ac.uk with 'Employability mailing list' in the subject line.
