Open Days are the perfect way to see the places that you’ll live and study in during your time with us.

You can join talks about our BA (Hons) Modern Languages and BA (Hons) International Politics and Modern Languages courses to find out more about the topics you'll cover and the skills you'll gain.

As well as this, you'll be able to join smaller drop-in sessions focused on your chosen languages. This is a great way to experience how you'll learn at Bath.

Open Days are also a great way to:

visit facilities like our Sports Training Village and Library
meet current students and teaching staff
talk to staff about accommodation, admissions, funding, and placements
find out more about life as a student at Bath

Experience another country and culture during your degree

Both BA (Hons) International Politics and Modern Languages and BA (Hons) Modern Languages at Bath give you the chance to spend Year 3 in a country that primarily uses your chosen language(s).

You'll be able to immerse yourself in the culture of the place you visit, which will help you improve your language skills and build your confidence.

During your time abroad, you can:

do a professional placement
study at one of our partner universities
work as a language assistant in a school
a combination of two of these options

Many students gain important life experiences and independence, and increase their professional networks.

A range of language options

Both courses include the choice of advanced languages (typically those you'd have studied at A-level or equivalent) and beginner (ab initio) languages. Ab initio streams fast-track your learning to prepare you for studying or working abroad in Year 3.

Study in a safe, student-friendly city

Bath is the 2nd safest university town/city in England and Wales (Complete University Guide, 2025) and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, thanks to its Roman heritage and Georgian architecture.

But there’s much more to Bath than its iconic buildings and history. A vibrant range of shops, bars and restaurants, music venues, museums, and festivals make it a great place to live as a student.

A well-connected campus

Our campus is on the edge of the city. You can travel between the city and the campus easily by foot, bike, car, or bus. Local transport links mean you’ll be:

Combine a language with management

You can also study a language alongside international management.

Our Department of Politics, Languages & International Studies and School of Management also offer you the chance to study a language alongside international management.

International Management and Modern Languages

Learn about the business environment in an international context. You’ll develop your management and intercultural skills, work or study abroad and become fluent in either French, German or Spanish.
