Take part in a study on women’s job-seeking experiences after 50

We are looking to interview women aged 50 and over to share their experiences in finding work after taking a break from the job market.

Background information

Women in their 50s and 60s play a vital role in the UK workforce. However, little research has focused on their job-seeking experiences, especially after the challenges posed by COVID-19.

We want to learn how women over 50 are navigating the return to work after time away, whether due to unemployment or caregiving responsibilities. Your insights will help us understand how life events and personal circumstances influence these experiences.

Information about participant eligibility

To take part:

  • you must be a woman aged 50 and over, who is unemployed or otherwise not in paid work and is looking for a job
  • you're also welcome to participate if you have only recently found a job or are no longer job-hunting for reasons like early retirement.

You are not eligible to take part if you are/were employed during your job search.

Take part in this research

This study starts 1 November 2024 and ends 31 October 2026.

What's involved

A one-hour interview at a time and place that works for you. This can be done either online or in person.

What participants will get for taking part in the study

As a thank you, you’ll get £15 for your time.

By sharing your experiences, you’ll contribute to a better understanding of the challenges women face when returning to work in their 50s and 60s.

Your input can help shape policies that support women during this transition and raise awareness among employers about the obstacles faced by women aged 50+. Plus, your story may encourage and help others going through similar experiences.

How personal information will be handled

All information will be treated in the strictest confidence and stored in accordance with UK data protection legislation. As a participant, you’ll have access to your own data on request.

Your name and any other identifying information will never be disclosed or identifiable in any presentation or publication of the research.
