Economics: a universal language solving global challenges
Originally from India, I’m now working for a global market research and strategy business in Toronto and hold a degree in commerce and an MA in economics. My inherent interest in economics and analysis inspired me to pursue a Master of Research (MRes) degree.
I wanted to gain a deeper understanding of various methodologies and software tools for comprehensive analysis. I have always been fascinated by how economics intertwines with every aspect of our lives, offering valuable insights into global issues. I have a strong passion for addressing social issues and development studies, driven by a desire to contribute positively to society.
At Bath, I had the exciting opportunity to conduct a study on collusive bribery, which was both challenging and rewarding. Studying under experienced professionals provided an exceptional opportunity to enhance my knowledge and skills in these areas.
Mastering my research skills
I chose MRes Economics because it offered a unique blend of traditional coursework and extensive research projects. Unlike a typical master’s course, the MRes allowed me to hone my research skills through practical projects, which was particularly appealing to me.
The course facilitated my career aspirations by equipping me with the necessary skills and knowledge to advance in the field of economics research.
During my time doing the course, my passion for research grew stronger. My experience at Bath revealed the vast possibilities within the research industry. The friendly and respectful teaching staff made the learning process enjoyable; and alongside that the weekly presentations by staff and PhD students, as well as guest speakers, provided enriching intellectual debates. I found that the collaborative academic environment created a strong sense of community and learning.
