Guidance for undergraduate offer holders affected by events in the Middle East

The University has carefully considered how the impact of the Middle East conflict affects current applications to our undergraduate courses.

The University understands that many of our applicants have been affected by ongoing conflicts in the Middle East. If you are an offer holder from the region you may be concerned about how this will impact your application with us.

If you are an existing member of the University community please see guidance on support available for staff and students.

Exam cancellations

We understand some exams have been cancelled in certain countries:

  • Indian Class XII exams in Bahrain, Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates
  • GCE and International A level exams in Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates and in some cases Lebanon
  • International Baccalaureate exams across various countries including Bahrain, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates

We are monitoring the potential impact on other exams which have not currently been officially cancelled including Advanced Placement Exams.

If your exams have been cancelled and you expect to receive final grades

Awarding bodies have announced alternative methods for assessing candidates and we understand in most cases you will still be able to receive final grades at the usual time. Each awarding body has put in place its own methods using some combination of completed assessments, predicted grades, grades calculated based on previous exams, or a portfolio of evidence.

If you have questions about the assessment methods that will now be used please check with your school, college or awarding body directly.

The University of Bath will accept grades awarded through these methods to meet your offer conditions for any of the following qualifications:

  • Indian Class XII
  • GCE and International A levels
  • International Baccalaureate

If your exams have been cancelled your offer remains valid and your offer conditions will not change.

We hope that these alternative methods will mean you receive the grades you deserve despite any disruption you have experienced. We recognise you may feel more uncertain about your results and have concerns about your ability to meet your offer conditions.

You will not automatically be considered under our mitigating circumstances process, as based on past examples we expect that the awards process will account for the disruption you have experienced. We will, however, review the results we receive very carefully to make sure this remains the fair and appropriate approach once they are available.

Cancelled GCE A levels

GCE A levels are regulated by Ofqual, and we understand portfolio-based assessments will not be made available for these qualifications. This means you may not be able to receive an award in this sitting for these qualifications.

UK awarding bodies are in some cases offering affected students the option to switch their GCE A level to an equivalent International A level.

We accept GCE A levels and International A levels interchangeably and make offers on that basis.

If you switch from a GCE A level to an International A level your offer will not change and we will accept your awarded grades the same as other applicants.

If your exams have been cancelled and you do not expect to receive final grades

If your exams have been cancelled and you do not expect to receive final grades this summer, please contact us as soon as possible with details of your application and circumstances so we can review your case and advise you individually.

You should email us at admissions@bath.ac.uk and include your UCAS Personal ID number or Bath Student ID.

If your exams have not been cancelled

We recognise that if your exams are able to proceed, your preparation and studies leading up to this exam period may have been heavily disrupted by events in your country.

If you take exams in the 2026 Summer period in any of the following countries your results will automatically be considered under our mitigating circumstances process:

  • Bahrain
  • Iran
  • Iraq
  • Israel
  • Jordan
  • Kuwait
  • Lebanon
  • Oman
  • Palestine
  • Qatar
  • Saudi Arabia
  • United Arab Emirates

If you have been impacted by the conflict, regardless of where you currently live, you can also share your individual circumstances with us through the mitigating circumstances form available in your Bath Application Tracker.

Offer conditions and mitigating circumstances

We do not reduce offer conditions before you receive results on the basis of mitigating circumstances. However, if you miss your conditions your results through circumstances outside your control, mitigating circumstances will be considered very carefully and there may be some additional flexibility when assessing whether we are able to confirm your place.

In all cases, you will not be automatically unsuccessful if you miss your offer conditions.

Our priority is to ensure all students who join us are suitably prepared for their studies, so we cannot guarantee this flexibility will apply in all cases.
