Help us research living with vision impairment as a young person in the UK
We need young people with vision impairment to help us create a tool to help people affected by sight loss with their future key life transitions.
About this research
We need people aged 16 to 24 with vision impairment to be part of our working group to help us to create a tool to better understand barriers and enablers in young people's key life transitions. Below is an audio description of the research study.
Research background
What are the challenges perceived and faced by young people with vision impairment during key transition periods of their lives, and what can ease these transitions?
Only young people with vision impairment can answer these questions; and not through passive and peripheral participation in research, but by being at the centre of it and being active co-designers and developers of tools aimed at answering these questions and achieving effective solutions.
What you’ll do
If you successfully join this research study, which will last for six months, you'll become part of a working group with other young people from across the UK.
As this research study uses a Community-Based Participatory Research approach, you’ll be required to:
- actively participate in at least 14 meetings
- continue discussing ideas between meetings in dedicated forums that will be open specifically for this project.
If you cannot attend the meetings in person, you’ll able to attend remotely using Microsoft Teams, Zoom, or another suitable platform.

We are recruiting participants to start on 1 September 2023.
Eligibility
To take part in this research study, you must be:
- Aged between 16 and 24
- Have a vision impairment
Your data
All of your data will be handled in line with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) regulations. You will not be identifiable in any publications.
Your data will be anonymised and stored on the University of Bath’s secure computer server. This data will only be accessed by the research team.
What you’ll get for taking part
You will receive £100 for contributing to this research. To receive this, you must participate in at least 14 meetings and contribute to dedicated forums in between these meetings.
Your input will potentially contribute to the creation of a new tool to help understand how key transition periods in the life of young people with vision impairment can be eased. This could help other people to overcome challenges associated with vision impairment in the future.
