Our research will impact all of those living with dementia and their carers

More than 700,000 people in the UK live with dementia, a figure estimated to rise to 1.4 million by 2040. Professor Nick Gould worked with the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) and the Social Care Institute for Excellence (SCIE), to develop clinical guidelines for the treatment and management of dementia, using teams of systematic reviewers. The guidelines define mandatory standards for care in dementia services for the NHS, and advisory standards for the social care sector.

This research will have an impact on all people living with dementia and their carers, and also underpins significant elements of the Department of Health’s national dementia strategy, published in 2009.
