The University Teaching Awards recognise the significant contributions made by staff to enhance the academic lives of students and colleagues. Each year staff and students are invited to nominate colleagues for these awards.
If you would like to nominate a member of the University’s professional services and support staff, or a team, but feel they do not fit into the criteria of any of the seven Teaching Awards. The Staff Recognition Awards recognise individuals or teams who have shown excellence in their work and contributed to the broader life of the University. The nominations for 2024/25 will open in January 2025.
Innovation in Learning and Teaching Award
The Innovation in Learning and Teaching Award recognises a significant contribution to curriculum design, content or delivery innovation, either as an example of major change, or a record of innovative practice over several years. In 2024 the Innovation in Learning and Teaching Award was presented to Professor Jason Hart & Dr Katharina Lenner (Department of Social & Policy Sciences). John Willis Award
This award is presented to outstanding members of academic teaching staff in recognition of their dedication to the academic and pastoral care of students combined with a significant contribution to teaching and accomplishment in research.
In 2024 the John Willis Award was presented to Dr Adam Hahn, Department of Psychology. Find out more about Dr Hahn's approach to teaching and research.

Mary Tasker Award
This award recognises excellence in teaching. It is presented to outstanding members of teaching staff who have demonstrated creative and effective approaches to teaching and learning.
The Mary Tasker Award 2024 was presented to Dr Touseef Mir (Department of Social & Policy Sciences). Find out more about Dr Mir's teaching initiatives.

Leadership in Learning and Teaching Award
This award recognises exceptional leadership in learning and teaching. It is presented to members of staff who have successfully initiated transformational change in learning and teaching practice, learning support, administrative or managerial practices, or have influenced the manner in which colleagues view or approach learning, teaching or students.
In 2024 the award was presented to Professor Nathalia Gjersoe (Department Psychology). Find out more about Nathalia's approach to teaching.
Nominate someone for their leadership in learning and teaching
Best Team in Support of Student Learning Award
This award recognises exceptional and/or innovative team work and collaboration in the delivery of learning and teaching. It is presented to a team who have made an exceptional, innovative or transformational contribution to the student experience in learning and teaching.
In 2024, the award was presented to: The Design Studio 6.1: Regenerative Cities Studio Team (Dr Alexander Wright, Dr Andrew Jarvis, Dr Anne Claxton, Jayne Barlow and Rupert Grierson) Department of Architecture & Civil Engineering. Director of Studies Award
This award recognises the important role played by Directors of Studies in supporting learning and teaching, and their positive impact on the student experience.

Personal Tutor of the Year Award
This award recognises the important and valuable role Personal Tutors have in supporting students in their studies and personal development throughout their course.
