Population Health Improvement UK Commercial Determinants of Health and Equity (PHI-UK CDOH)

One of the influences on health that remains poorly understood at local level is the commercial sector, despite growing evidence of its major impacts on health and equity. This project brings together researchers at 5 universities who will work with local governments, local populations and public health practitioners to understand the building blocks, including the commercial factors, that impact on communities’ health.

Taking a systems approach, it will use that knowledge to identify, implement and evaluate the population-level interventions most likely to improve health, wellbeing and equity at scale. It will also work specifically to explore and address the barriers to implementing interventions.

Bloomberg Initiative to Reduce Tobacco Use

TCRG is a partner in the Bloomberg Initiative to Reduce Tobacco Use (BI) and is part of STOP. STOP is a global tobacco industry watchdog whose mission is to expose the tobacco industry tactics that undermine public health. Comprised of a network of academic and public health organisations, STOP researches and monitors the tobacco industry, shares intelligence to counter its tactics, and exposes its misdeeds to a global audience. STOP is funded by Bloomberg Philanthropies as part of the BI.

Shaping Public Health Policies to Reduce Inequalities and Harm (SPECTRUM)

TCRG is a project partner in the SPECTRUM consortium, investigating the commercial determinants of health and health inequalities. SPECTRUM covers tobacco, alcohol, and foods high in sugar, salt and fat. SPECTRUM builds on the work of the UK Centre for Tobacco and Alcohol Studies.
