Occupations, industries and skills

Chemical engineers transform ideas into products and services to address global challenges. They work on vital projects including clean water provision, waste material recovery, food production, and healthcare improvement. Their process design expertise and critical thinking skills open doors to both engineering and business-focused careers.

Industries

Chemical Engineering graduates work across sectors using chemical processes, from water and energy to food, healthcare, chemicals and pharmaceuticals. Employers range from technology start-ups to global corporations. Graduates can also apply their process and analytical skills in finance, business consulting, technology and environmental organisations.

Occupations

Most graduates begin as process engineers, though titles vary by industry. Some work as specialist engineers in areas like nuclear power, while others take roles in production or project engineering. Chemical engineers also work in research and development, creating new products or focusing on environmental solutions. Their mathematical and programming expertise is valued in business, particularly in finance and technology sectors.
