Occupations, industries and skills

Civil and Civil/Architectural Engineering graduates create sustainable solutions for the built environment, meeting modern design and technical standards. They combine structural engineering expertise with architectural design principles through collaborative working. Their strong creative thinking and communication abilities make them valuable not only in civil engineering but across any field requiring innovative problem-solving.

Industries

Most Civil and Civil/Architectural Engineering graduates work in consulting and contracting civil engineering firms. Popular employers include large design-and-build organisations and specialist companies focusing on rail or infrastructure. Some graduates choose environmental organisations or move into alternative sectors such as consumer goods or professional services.

Occupations

Most graduates enter civil engineering roles, typically starting as graduate engineers. Common specialisations include structural or building systems engineering, while some take on site engineering roles in construction projects. Others pursue architectural positions such as architectural assistant. Some graduates apply their analytical and problem-solving skills outside construction, working as consultants or analysts across various sectors.

Graduate Outcomes explained

The Graduate Outcomes Survey is the UK's largest social survey, capturing the activities and perspectives of graduates 15 months after graduation. The University of Bath has an excellent graduate employment record, featuring in the top ten for graduate prospects in three major national league tables 6.
