What to expect

If you're unsure how career support services work, no need to worry. We've created the following guides to explain what to expect:

Who will I see

Our career support team consists of:

  • Information Team - information specialists who staff our front desk, email and phone line
  • Careers Consultants - provide careers advice and counselling
  • Applications Advisers - experts in CVs, cover letters, and applications for jobs or further study
  • Student Employability Coaches - trained students who can provide application feedback and support our front desk

Our friendly and professional team can help all students and graduates. However, each Careers Consultant covers a Faculty/School and some staff have their own areas of expertise.

Drop-in support

We offer drop-in support in the Careers Centre from 10am to 4pm, Monday to Friday. When you visit the Careers Centre you will speak with our front desk staff. They will either:

  • be able to resolve your question immediately
  • add you to the drop-in queue to speak to a Careers Consultant, Applications Adviser or Student Employability Coach

Our Careers Consultants, Applications Advisers and Student Employability Coaches can help with a variety of career questions. For example:

  • career planning and exploration
  • CV and job application feedback
  • further study application feedback
  • interview preparation
  • course change queries
  • general career advice

Depending on how busy the drop-in is, you will get around 10-15 minutes with our staff.

Quiet Hour

Every Tuesday during term time between 10.30 am and 11.30 am is Careers Quiet Hour. Lighting and noise will be kept to a minimum.

If you consider yourself neurodivergent or find noise and busy periods difficult, this is the perfect time to seek help from Careers. No appointment is needed.

Remote support

If you are away from Bath and cannot attend our drop-in we can still help. Contact Careers on 01225 386009 or email careers@bath.ac.uk. In most cases we will provide immediate help or we’ll arrange a callback with one of our staff.

Appointments by referral

Most of our appointments are arranged by referral and bookings are staff mediated. Usually referrals will be made during an initial chat in a drop-in with our Careers Consultants, Applications Advisers or Student Employability Coaches.

Depending on your needs you might be referred to one of two appointment types:

CV and Applications Advice appointments

  • For feedback on an application form, CV, cover letter, LinkedIn profile or personal statement (employment or further study)
  • 20-minute appointment with an Applications Adviser
  • Not available for architecture or design portfolios

Careers Appointments

  • For job search, career options, course change or interview preparation and support
  • 20-minute appointments with a Careers Consultant
  • Not used for CV or application feedback

Careers Plus appointments for students with disabilities

We offer additional 'Plus' appointments for students with a disability or long-term health condition. These can be booked without a referral.

  • For any student or graduate with a disability or long-term health condition, including mental health, long-term chronic illness, physical or sensory, or a specific learning disability such as dyslexia
  • Support with informing employers about (disclosing) a disability
  • Advice on identifying and requesting reasonable adjustments in the application process
  • 20-minute appointments with a Careers Consultant

Book online on MyFuture or email careers-plus@bath.ac.uk.
