Occupations, industries and skills
Mechanical Engineering combines scientific principles with design and manufacturing processes. Graduates develop sought-after skills in teamwork, initiative, problem-solving and creativity, alongside specialist engineering knowledge. While most work in high-technology and manufacturing industries, many find success in other sectors.
Industries
Mechanical Engineering graduates primarily work in the aerospace and automotive industries and in design consultancies, with strong representation in manufacturing, medical engineering and large engineering firms. Their skills in problem-solving, creativity, design, analytics and advanced mathematics are also valued in software, finance and professional services.
Occupations
Most graduates become professional engineers, with roles ranging from specialist positions like MWD (measurements while drilling) engineer to broader graduate engineer roles. Many work as design or technology consultants, while others leverage their project management skills in management consulting.
