Occupations, industries and skills

Sports Performance and Sport Management & Coaching studies examine sport, health and physical activity in society, often drawing from graduates' athletic or coaching experience. Graduates develop attractive employability skills including teamwork, communication, critical thinking and problem-solving, alongside specialist knowledge in sport management, coaching, psychology, development and social policy. These skills are valuable across sectors including sport and physical activity, education, charity, local government and business.

Industries

Both disciplines offer versatile career pathways across education, the public sector, charity, sports and fitness organisations, and business, particularly in sports management. Graduates' transferable skills, especially in communication and teamwork, are valuable to employers beyond sport in public, private and third sectors.

Occupations

Graduates typically work in sport and education as physical education teachers, sports coaches, fitness trainers and outdoor activities instructors. Other common roles include partnerships manager, analyst, performance analyst, business development executive and researcher. They also succeed in non-sport roles such as recruitment consultant and operations manager across public and private sectors. Often preferring active roles, graduates also work in the emergency services (Police, Fire & Rescue, Ambulance).

Further study

Sports Performance and Sport Management & Coaching graduates pursue diploma or master's level qualifications, commonly choosing vocational paths such as PGCE for teaching or specialist coaching qualifications like strength and conditioning.

Example further study institutions

  • KCL School of Design
