The Turing Stories Contest is intended to promote mobilities abroad, as well as to reward your creative talents.

Tell us about your experience abroad with Turing Scheme funding by participating in our Turing Stories Contest and give other students a taste of the international experience they could have!

The Turing Stories Contest is intended to promote mobilities abroad, as well as to reward your creative talents.

Eligibility

The Turing Stories Contest is open to all students enrolled at the University of Bath who have completed or are currently completing a study exchange or work placement abroad during the academic year 2023-24 and have benefitted from Turing Scheme funding.

How to enter

We would like you to portray in an attractive way one or more aspects of your time abroad by doing one of the following:

  • recording a video diary
  • writing a blog post
  • sharing a photograph with a caption

All contributions must include a reference to the positive impact Turing Scheme funding has had on your experience abroad. You can submit no more than one entry per category.

Video diary guide

Your video diary should be maximum 5 minutes and it should portray in an attractive way one or more aspects arising from undertaking a mobility.

The video should be in English. If other languages are used, translation or subtitles must be provided. Your video should include one or more of the following 5 themes:

  • Your motivations for wanting to take part in a mobility abroad
  • Your activities while on exchange/placement (e.g. travelling on public transport, eating out, shopping, activities carried out at your host university or work place, etc.)
  • Your expectations before going abroad
  • Your reflections on whether the exchange/placement is meeting your expectations while abroad
  • Your conclusions on what you have learned and how you feel about this experience

Moreover, your video must include your comments on the impact that Turing Scheme funding has had on your mobility abroad. You will be required to submit a consent form signed by any people appearing in the video, if applicable.

Blog post guide

Your blog post should be around 500 words and should highlight the positive impact that Turing Scheme funding has had on your experience.

Your blog post should include one or more of the following 5 themes:

  • Your motivations for wanting to take part in a mobility abroad
  • Your activities while on exchange/placement (e.g. travelling on public transport, eating out, shopping, activities carried out at your host university or work place, etc.)
  • Your expectations before going abroad
  • Your conclusions on what you have learned and how you feel about this experience

Moreover, your post must include your comments on the impact that Turing Scheme funding has had on your mobility abroad.

One or more photographs to accompany the post would be great too!

In terms of the format to follow, please have a look at other blog posts that have previously been published on the International Relations Office blog.

Photograph guide

Your photograph should be representative of your time abroad and could include:

  • new people you met while abroad
  • the places you discovered
  • your activities while on exchange/placement (e.g. travelling on public transport, eating out, shopping, activities carried out at your host university or work place, etc.)

You will be required to submit a consent form signed by any people appearing in the photograph, if applicable. The photograph will need to be accompanied by a caption, which should be around 100 words and should provide:

  • an explanation of the photograph
  • a comment on your experience abroad
  • a reference to the Turing Scheme

Selection criteria

  • Respect of the themes mentioned above
  • Originality and relevance

Entry submission

All submissions must be emailed to turing@bath.ac.uk.

Video diary entries must be uploaded to YouTube and a link must be emailed to turing@bath.ac.uk.

Submission deadline

Entries will need to be submitted by 31st August 2024 to be considered.

Winner notification

All participants will be notified by email of the outcome of the Contest. Winners will be publicly announced, via email and on the University’s website, and their entries shared.

Prizes

Prizes will be awarded to the best entry for each category, which will be selected by the International Relations Office (IRO) based on the selection criteria outlined above. The IRO’s decision is final and there is no right of appeal.

There are three prizes available in total, one for each category:

  • Video diary entry: £300
  • Blog post entry: £200
  • Photograph with caption entry: £100

The monetary prizes will be paid straight into the respective winners’ bank accounts approximately 8-10 weeks after the conclusion of the Contest.

Use of submissions

By applying to the Contest, all participants agree that the entries submitted may be used by the University of Bath for promotional, advertising, and written and electronic materials.

Ownership of submissions

All submissions to the Turing Stories Contest become the property of the University of Bath. Winners of the Turing Stories Contest will be required to submit the original file when claiming the prize, as well as a consent form signed by any people appearing in their video or photo entries, if applicable.

The University of Bath assumes no responsibility for submissions that are incorrect, damaged, destroyed, lost, late, incomplete, illegible, altered, or misdirected. The University also assumes no responsibility for any damage or loss resulting from or related to the Turing Stories Contest. As stated above, all submissions become the property of the University of Bath. By submitting an entry for this Contest, participants agree that they understand all of the rules and regulations of the competition.
