Bath International Excellence Scholarships

The University of Bath is delighted to offer up to 300 Bath International Excellence Scholarships, which are worth £8,000 per academic year (up to £24,000 over three years) for high achieving students joining an undergraduate degree course in September 2027.

Eligibility criteria

In order to apply for a Bath International Excellence Scholarship, you must:

  • be a new first year applicant assessed as an overseas fee paying student
  • have an offer for any undergraduate degree at the University of Bath starting in September 2027

If you are awarded a scholarship, then in order to receive it you must choose the University of Bath as your firm choice in your initial UCAS replies.

This scholarship is not available for our two year MArch (Hons) Architecture degree (where you have separately studied a Bachelors degree). It is available for our BSc (Hons) Architecture and MArch (Hons) Architecture four or five year degrees.

How to apply

Applications for the International Excellence Scholarship are due to open in late 2026.

Once you hold an offer of a place at the University of Bath, you can apply through the application form available in your Bath Application Tracker.

If your fee status has not been confirmed with your offer, you will need to wait until we have completed our full assessment and confirmed you are an Overseas fee payer before you will be able to apply. Please contact us if you expect to be an Overseas fee payer and need your fee status confirmed in order to apply for the scholarship by the deadline.

We will consider applications in two rounds.

  • Round 1 is due to close on 14 February 2027
  • Round 2 is due to close on 31 March 2027

To make sure you have an outcome when making your firm and insurance choices through UCAS, we will aim to communicate all final outcomes ahead of the May UCAS reply deadline.

We will not consider applicants on a first-come, first-served basis, and will consider every application on their individual merits regardless of when you apply.

Applications will only be considered once. If your application is unsuccessful in either round, we will not be able to reconsider your application at a later date. Decisions are final and if your application is unsuccessful while you hold predicted grades we will not be able to reconsider once you have achieved your grades, even if you exceed your predictions.

What makes a competitive application

The Bath International Excellence Scholarship is a competitive award. A strong application will be highly personal and tailored to you. It should include specific examples of your appropriate skills and experiences. We want to see that you can reflect upon your experiences in a realistic way to succeed both at Bath and in your future goals.

We recommend that you avoid using generative AI to write your answers for you. This will depersonalise your response and will usually produce a generic answer. Your voice is as important as your motivation and experience.

When writing your answers, think beyond the financial incentive alone. What will studying at Bath specifically offer to help further you towards your goals, and what can you contribute to the Bath community?

Do remember that this award is a recognition of your academic and personal excellence, and this application is your chance to demonstrate the best version of yourself and your ability to write critically.

Details of the award

The scholarship offers an £8,000 discount on your tuition-fees for each full-time year of study, up to a maximum of three years (£24,000). This means that:

  • if your course includes a placement or study abroad year you will not receive a discount on tuition fees for that year. For example, for a four-year BSc course including a placement in year 3, you will normally receive the discount for years 1, 2 and 4
  • if you study full-time for more than three years of your course, you will be eligible for the discount in the first three years of full-time study only
  • the discount applies to the preparatory year (year 0) of our MPharm Pharmacy with preparatory year
  • the discount will apply to the BSc top-up year of our FdSc Sport (Sports Performance) course if you successfully transfer to it, providing you have not received more than a £16,000 discount during the FdSc course

Scholarships are available only as discounts on tuition fees and cannot be substituted for other forms of discounts or cash awards.

The scholarship is available only while you are paying overseas fees. If you become eligible for Home fees your scholarship will stop.

The International Excellence Scholarship is a recognition of your individual academic merit and drive and is not a hardship fund. We will not be able to take your personal or financial circumstances into account when making our decision.

This scheme is for 2027 entrants only, and details of any scholarships available for 2028 entrants and beyond will be confirmed in the future.

Scholarship award criteria

In your application you will be asked to answer three questions:

  1. what opportunities will become possible for you if you receive this scholarship, and how will they enable you to achieve your personal goals?
  2. how have the accomplishments and skills you have cultivated help you to succeed both as a Bath scholar and in your wider ambitions?
  3. how will you contribute to the Bath community and act as a future ambassador for the university?

Each question has a character limit of 1000.

Your applications will be assessed based on your three answers and your overall academic profile (from your UCAS application).

Deferred entry

Scholarship applications can only be considered within the academic year that your course is due to start. This means that:

  • if you are holding a deferred offer for an undergraduate course starting in September 2027, you will be eligible to apply for the International Excellence Scholarship when applications open in late 2026. Any scholarship outcomes from the previous year will not carry over, and you will have to reapply
  • any deferred applications made this year (for courses beginning in September 2028) will not be eligible to apply for the International Excellence Scholarship this year
  • if you receive an offer for entry in 2027 and defer to a later year after being successful in your scholarship application, the scholarship decision will be rescinded and you will need to apply in the academic year in which your course is due to start

You will not be disadvantaged in any way for having a previous scholarship application, regardless of its outcome.
