Given the increasing frequency of various crises, it is imperative that we understand how these unanticipated shocks impact people’s lives and livelihoods.
This resonates closely with the UN Sustainable Development Goal 1, which calls for bolstering resilience of the poor and vulnerable to shield them from the adverse impacts of shocks - especially since a significant proportion lack adequate social protection.
This has led to an increasingly active research area in economics and other sciences.
This two-day workshop aims to bring together experts from different fields to increase awareness of:
- current research on vulnerability, resilience, and insecurity that capture uncertainties from micro and macro perspectives
- methodological advances in estimating resilience and vulnerability
- future directions of research that highlight both theoretical gaps and open policy questions
The workshop is open to researchers, policymakers, and students interested in these issues.
It is funded by the University of Bath and Manchester School Journal.
