Many of our students go on to gain employment in patient-facing clinical roles in the community pharmacy sector, hospitals, or emerging roles in general practice.

The strong science base to our pharmacy degree also supports career progression in research and drug development roles in the corporate and public pharmaceutical industry, and roles in academia. We have a strong careers programme to support this.

In Year 4 of the course you’ll have the option to either undertake an extensive research project or apply to go on a 12-week placement with an international partner organisation.

We have placement opportunities available in Australia, Brazil, Europe, New Zealand, and the US. With up to 30 placements available each year, there are many opportunities to live and work abroad as part of the course.

Our pharmacy course is designed to give the future pharmacy workforce a strong understanding of the safe and effective use of medicines.

You'll learn in modern clinical teaching facilities regardless of whether you study in Bath or Plymouth, including consulting rooms where you can take part in role-playing encounters with patients or professional actors. You can also work with our SimMan 3G, a life-like robotic patient programmed to have a range of simulated medical conditions.

You'll spend time out on placement in each year of the course in a variety of settings, applying your knowledge to real patients and healthcare teams.

Students on both our Bath and Plymouth pharmacy courses will study the same course content and graduate with a University of Bath degree, gaining a unique knowledge of the scientific development and clinical use of medicines, and preparing you for a career as a pharmacist.

Bath is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, thanks to its Roman heritage and Georgian architecture, so there are loads of historic locations to visit around the city. As an MPharm student living in Bath, you'll get all the convenience of living in a vibrant, historic city but with a friendly and safe community atmosphere.

Alongside our academics, you'll be taught by our strong team of teacher practitioners and practice educators who still work in practice. Their experience will keep the course up to date and they will be able to give you career advice based on the real world. They teach you at the university and also run teaching sessions in their practice bases throughout your course.

We have strong links with key employers, including the local NHS Trusts in Bath, Bristol and Swindon and also with many of the community pharmacy employers including Boots and Day Lewis.

After your pre-registration year, you are able to return to the University to complete one of our postgraduate diplomas or prescribing qualifications.
