Our recently appointed professors from across our six departments will be presenting the story of their route to professor, and the achievements that have brought them to this point. Between them, they will provide insight into the many different ways academics can demonstrate their contributions to academic life across the spectrum of research, teaching, and management and leadership activity.

Anti-corruption strategies: The ‘good’, the ‘not-so-good’ and the ‘bad’
- Host: Professor Ajit Mishra
- Date: Wednesday, 1 May 2024
- Time: 6 pm (BST)
- Location: The Chancellors' Building, Room 2.6
Corruption, commonly defined as abuse of public office for private gains, has often been viewed as a major obstacle to growth and development. It is not surprising that control of corruption has received considerable attention over the years, both in academic research and policy discourses.
This talk looks at the economics of corruption control, using some of Ajit's own research, highlighting some of the old issues such as ‘monitoring the monitor’ and the more recent concerns regarding the role of ‘soft information’ and technology, and behavioural factors. It highlights the potential impact of a poorly designed or badly implemented policy in this context.
