EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Cyber Security funding

New doctoral students may be eligible for funding from the Cyber Secure Everywhere Centre for Doctoral Training (CDT).

Funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council and based at the University of Bristol and the University of Bath, the CDT offers PhD students the opportunity to learn directly from leading experts within multiple disciplines including management, psychology, engineering, sociology and computer science.

Programme overview

The programme offers a challenge-led, interdisciplinary, user-informed and holistic approach to research training.

All students are registered at the University of Bristol in the first year which is delivered through teaching, masterclasses, placements, sandpits and guided self-study including peer-supported learning and group work.

In years 2-4, students complete their research project under the guidance of their supervisors and are based at either the University of Bath or the University of Bristol. Enhanced training opportunities continue to be available through the research phase.

Read more about the programme on the CDT’s website.

Eligibility criteria

Find out if you are eligible for this award.

Funding eligibility

You can apply for this award if you are a Home or International student, however, in line with guidance from UK Research and Innovation (UKRI), the number of awards available to International students will be limited to 30% of the total.

International students should note that a studentship award does not cover UK Student visa costs, or the cost of the mandatory UK Immigration Health Surcharge. These costs can be considerable, so we ask all Overseas applicants to check these costs before applying and ensure they would be willing and able to cover these from their personal funds.

Academic eligibility

Applicants must hold/achieve a minimum of an upper-second class honours degree (or international equivalent) in a relevant discipline including (but not limited to): computer science, psychology, management, electrical and electronics engineering, civil engineering, criminology and social sciences. The most critical requirement is a passion for cyber security and the desire to make our connected world secure and hence safe.

English language requirements

Applicants whose first language is not English must hold/achieve a minimum score in an approved English language test taken no more than 2 years prior to the start date of the programme. Please see Profile B of the University of Bristol's English Language Requirements Policy for other means of meeting the English language entry requirement, as well as details of the tests accepted and scores required.

Programme expectations

This is an in-person PhD programme, and you are expected to attend in person from the start of the programme (except during any placements).
