Living in University accommodation

Become part of our student community; we're here to help you feel at home.

Our postgraduate accommodation is located predominantly around the centre of Bath, where there are regular buses that run to the University campus. We also have postgraduate accommodation for 2022 on campus in Polden.

Our accommodation is specially designed with students in mind. You can pick somewhere to suit your budget and your lifestyle.

Living in University accommodation includes our postgraduate accommodation package, put together to help you settle in and feel at home.

Choosing your accommodation options

Information about the differences between each accommodation type, to help you to make your selection.

Choosing University accommodation gives you more than just a room. It's our goal to make student accommodation feel like home, by creating a sense of community within our accommodation. This can help you to create lifelong memories, and lasting relationships with your housemates.

Your options

The options available to you will vary based on your course and level of study.

We’ll do our best to place you in your preferred room type, but we cannot guarantee this.

Apply by the 16 June 2022 deadline. Allocations for postgraduate accommodation are on a first-come-first-served basis.

Eligible overseas postgraduate student

If you are an eligible overseas postgraduate student and apply by the deadline, you are guaranteed accommodation in any of our postgraduate accommodation buildings.

Postgraduate students from the UK

If you are a postgraduate from the UK we have accommodation available in:

Once this availability runs out, you will be placed on our waiting list.

If you have a disability or medical condition

Make sure you tell us so that we can consider your needs when looking at accommodation applications.

Additional requirements and preferences

When doing your application, you can request to live in mixed or single-sex accommodation.

You can also tell us if you would prefer to live in designated quiet accommodation. This will be considered together with your room type preferences, although it is not guaranteed.

We are committed to providing a safe and happy environment for students to live in, whatever their choice of accommodation. We value diversity and inclusivity, and want everyone to be treated with respect.

For example, we can help you if you:

  • are trans and/or gender diverse; we may be able to place you in an en-suite bedroom or a studio
  • are non-binary or intersex; we can look at allocating you to a mixed-gender flat

To speak to someone about applying under these circumstances, contact our Student Living team at livingsupport@bath.ac.uk. The team is available to support you through every step of your move to University accommodation.

Bath was ranked the safest university town or city in England and Wales in 2022 by the Complete University Guide. We have also been accredited by the Association of Chief Police Officers as a secure environment. We have a Security team who are available on-call 24 hours a day, to keep you safe around the clock. This includes a dedicated accommodation security officer.

Secure accommodation

You can only access your accommodation with your specially programmed library card and keys. This system helps to keep you and your belongings safe.

Contents Insurance

Supporting you

As well as being a friendly and secure place to live, University accommodation gives you the support of our team of Student Living Ambassadors.

Our Student Living Ambassadors are here to make sure you feel at home in your accommodation. They will help you settle into University life by organising welcome activities and helping you to meet new people. The Ambassadors are also here to give you advice and support on things like keeping healthy, and balancing your studies with your personal life.

Halls Community and Student Living Assistants

We aim to be an inclusive university, where difference is celebrated, respected and encouraged. As an institution we’re committed to a set of Equality Objectives and an Athena Swan Charter action plan for introducing cultural changes that create a better environment for all members of University community.

We understand the importance of speaking with someone who shares your (or similar) background and introduced Student Living Assistant Champions for race equality and LGBTQ+ to make sure that students of diverse ethnic backgrounds and identities (sexual orientations, gender identities, and gender expressions) find our residencies a supportive and welcoming place.

You can read more about SLAs and reach out to relevant Champions here.
