Living in University accommodation

Become part of our student community; we're here to help you feel at home.

Living in University accommodation provides you with more than just a room. As standard, all of our postgraduate students receive the following benefits:

  • residence life programme, with postgraduate specific events including city tours and networking events
  • access to a dedicated [Student Living Support] team (/professional-services/student-living-support/
  • living in a new culture (LINC) orientation programme
  • 24/7 accommodation Security Team
  • support for living together
  • Bath Active fitness sessions

Our postgraduate accommodation is located predominantly around the centre of Bath, where there are regular buses that run to the University campus. For 2023, you can also apply to live on campus.

Our accommodation is specially designed with students in mind. Choose accommodation that suits your budget and lifestyle. We have a variety of room types available, from ensuites, to standard rooms with shared bathroom facilities. You can decide to live in one of our studio rooms with individual kitchenette and bathroom facilities, or a two-bedroom 'Twodio' apartment.

Your options

The options available to you will vary based on your course and level of study.

Applications for postgraduate accommodation open on the 15 March 2023, and allocations are completed on a first come first served basis subject to eligibility criteria being met.

Eligible overseas postgraduate student

If you are an eligible overseas postgraduate student and apply by the deadline, you are guaranteed a room in any of our postgraduate accommodations.

We will allocate based on your higher-ranked room type preferences where possible. Due to room availability at the time you become eligible for accommodation we may not always be able to offer you your preferred room type.

Postgraduate students from the UK

We have limited accommodation available to UK postgraduates. Room allocations are done on a first come first served basis as soon as your course offer becomes unconditional firm.

Once this availability runs out, you will be contacted and placed on our waiting list.

If you have a disability or medical condition

Make sure you tell us so that we can consider your needs when looking at accommodation applications.

Additional requirements and preferences

When doing your application, you can request to live in mixed or single-sex accommodation.

You can also tell us if you would prefer to live in designated quiet or vegetarian accommodation. This will be considered together with your room type preferences, although it is not guaranteed and is subject to availability and demand.

We are committed to providing a safe and happy environment for students to live in, whatever their choice of accommodation. We value diversity and inclusivity, and want everyone to be treated with respect.

For example, we can help you if you:

  • are trans and/or gender diverse; we may be able to place you in an en-suite bedroom or a studio
  • are non-binary or intersex; we can look at allocating you to a mixed-gender flat

To speak to someone about applying under these circumstances, contact our Student Living team at livingsupport@bath.ac.uk. The team is available to support you through every step of your move to University accommodation.

Bath is considered one of the safest cities in the world, and our campus is safe too.

Bath was ranked the safest university town or city in England and Wales in 2022 by the Complete University Guide. We have also been accredited by the Association of Chief Police Officers as a secure environment. We have a Security team who are available on-call 24 hours a day, to keep you safe around the clock. This includes a dedicated accommodation security officer.

Secure accommodation

You can only access your accommodation with your specially programmed library card and keys. This system helps to keep you and your belongings safe.

Contents Insurance

Insurance cover for your belongings is included as part of your accommodation package.

Supporting you

As well as being a friendly and secure place to live, University accommodation gives you the support of our team of Student Living Assistants.

Halls Community and Student Living Assistants

Our Student Living Assistants are here to make sure you feel at home in your accommodation. They will help you settle into University life by organising events to help you meet new people.

We aim to be an inclusive university, where difference is celebrated, respected and encouraged. As an institution we’re committed to a set of Equality Objectives and an Athena Swan Charter action plan for introducing cultural changes that create a better environment for all members of University community.

We understand the importance of speaking with someone who shares your (or similar) background. We have Student Living Assistant Champions for race equality and LGBTQ+ to make sure that students of diverse ethnic backgrounds and identities (sexual orientations, gender identities, and gender expressions) find our residencies a supportive and welcoming place.

You can read more about SLAs and reach out to relevant Champions here.
