Choosing your accommodation options

Find out more about each accommodation type, to help you to make your room selection.

Your options

The options available to you will vary based on your course and level of study.

Applications for postgraduate accommodation open on the 13 March 2024, and allocations are completed on a first come first served basis subject to eligibility criteria being met.

Eligible overseas postgraduate student

If you are an eligible overseas postgraduate student, apply by the deadline and meet the guarantee criteria, you are guaranteed a room in one of our postgraduate accommodations.

We will allocate based on your higher-ranked room type preferences where possible. Due to room availability at the time you become eligible for accommodation we may not always be able to offer you your preferred room type.

Pre-sessional students

You can apply for pre-sessional accommodation if you are a summer pre-sessional English student with a conditional or combined offer of admission.

Postgraduate students from the UK

If you are a home postgraduate student you can apply for the home postgraduate waiting list. We have partnered with nominations agreement accommodation to provide a limited number of rooms to our home postgraduate students.

Your accommodation options as a home postgraduate student are:

Allocation is subject to availability at the time your course offer status becomes unconditional firm. We do not guarantee accommodation and priority will be given to first year home postgraduates. We recommend that you explore alternative accommodation options in the private sector. Our ResLife team can offer guidance and advice with this and signpost suitable accommodation options.

If you have a disability or medical condition

Make sure you tell us if you have a disability or medical condition when applying for accommodation so that we can consider your needs.

Additional requirements and preferences

When doing your application, you can request to live in mixed or single-sex accommodation.

You can also tell us if you would prefer to live in designated quiet or vegetarian accommodation. This will be considered together with your room type preferences, although it is not guaranteed and is subject to availability and demand.

We are committed to providing a safe and happy environment for students to live in, whatever their choice of accommodation. We value diversity and inclusivity, and want everyone to be treated with respect.

For example, we can help you if you:

  • are trans and/or gender diverse; we may be able to place you in an en-suite bedroom or a studio
  • are non-binary or intersex; we can look at allocating you to a mixed-gender flat

To speak to someone about applying under these circumstances, contact our ResLife team at reslife@bath.ac.uk. You can also book a virtual appointment to speak with the allocations team.

Bath is considered one of the safest cities in the world, and our campus is safe too.

Bath was ranked the safest university town or city in England and Wales in 2022 by the Complete University Guide. This includes a dedicated accommodation security officer.

Supporting you

As well as being a friendly and secure place to live, University accommodation gives you the support of our team of ResLife Ambassadors.

Your Community and ResLife Ambassadors

Our ResLife Ambassadors are here to make sure you feel at home in your accommodation. They will help you settle into University life by organising events to help you meet new people.

We aim to be an inclusive university, where difference is celebrated, respected and encouraged. As an institution we’re committed to a set of Equality Objectives and an Athena Swan Charter action plan for introducing cultural changes that create a better environment for all members of University community.

We understand the importance of speaking with someone who shares your (or similar) background. We have ResLife Ambassadors Champions for race equality and LGBTQ+ to make sure that students of diverse ethnic backgrounds and identities (sexual orientations, gender identities, and gender expressions) find our accommodation a supportive and welcoming place.
