Accommodation Experience Surveys

This survey is run twice over an academic year and is aimed at students living in University-managed accommodation. It asks about:

  • the accommodation experience
  • community and belonging
  • general satisfaction

Be Well Survey

This internal survey is run in Semester 1 each academic year and is aimed at all students and asks about:

  • student mental health and wellbeing
  • community and belonging
  • experiences of support
  • sexual and racial harassment

Bursary Evaluation

This internal survey is run at the end of Semester 2 and is aimed at students who receive a scholarship or bursary. It asks about the impact of scholarships and bursaries on the student experience, such as:

  • wellbeing
  • belonging
  • employability

Careers Registration

This survey is for all students enrolling and re-enrolling at the University, is compulsory for all new entrants, and asks about:

  • career readiness
  • employability-related experiences

This national survey is aimed at all students and asks about:

  • student career priorities and preferences
  • employer rankings
  • application processes and assessment

Climate Action Survey

This survey is aimed at all students and staff and asks about:

  • attitudes and behaviours
  • appetite for change
  • experience of sustainability education
  • understanding key issues around sustainability and climate change

Course-level Survey

This internal survey is run in Semester 2 of each academic year and is aimed at non-finalist undergraduate students and asks about:

  • the course as a holistic whole
  • assessment and feedback
  • student voice

  • inclusivity

The 2025 survey is open from Monday 3 March until Monday 31 March 2025.

Investors in Students

This external survey is run once in Semester 1 and once in Semester 2 of each academic year and is aimed at students living in University-managed accommodation. It asks about:

  • mental health and wellbeing
  • support for disabilities and wellbeing

National Student Survey

This national survey, run in England by the Office for Students, is aimed at final year undergraduate students and asks about:

  • teaching and learning
  • assessment and feedback
  • academic support
  • organisation and management
  • learning resources
  • student voice.

The 2025 survey is open from Monday 3 February until Wednesday 30 April 2025.

PGT Dissertation Survey

This internal survey, based upon the Advance HE PTES Dissertation section, is aimed at most postgraduate taught students and asks about undertaking dissertations or major projects.

Postgraduate Taught Experience Survey

This national survey, run by Advance HE, is aimed at most postgraduate taught students as well as professional doctorate students in their taught phase of their course and asks about:

  • skills development

Postgraduate Research Experience Survey

This national survey, run by Advance HE, is run every two years and is aimed at doctoral students as well as those professional doctorate students in the research phase of their course. It asks about:

  • supervision
  • resources
  • research culture and community
  • progress and assessment
  • responsibilities
  • support
  • skills and professional development

The 2025 survey is open from Monday 3 March until Wednesday 31 April 2025.

Professional Doctorate Experience Survey

This internal survey was run every two years and was aimed at professional doctoral students, but was discontinued from 2025 onwards with students now surveys via Advance HE PTES or PRES depending upon the phase of their course; taught or research. It asked about:

  • research culture and community
  • progress and assessment
  • responsibilities
  • support
  • skills and professional development

Race Equality Charter Survey

Colleagues in Human Resources run this survey to meet the mandatory requirements of the Race Equality Charter, which will facilitate the deep self-assessment of race equality at University of Bath and determine where there are gaps, opportunities, and need for targeted actions.

Students' Union Surveys

The Students' Union (SU) runs multiple surveys each year to collect and represent the student voice. These surveys include collection of feedback about the SU, emerging issues, or to gather insight from specific communities of students. In addition to surveys, the SU also runs focus groups and other student voice engagement activities to support survey data. Many of the surveys run by the SU are in response to emerging issues and therefore are ad hoc. Regular surveys include:

  • regular pulse surveys across the academic year gathering feedback on timely issues from a random sample of students
  • Students' Union survey, gathering feedback on the SU, its services and activities

Welcome Surveys

Three surveys aimed at first-year undergraduate and postgraduate students ask about induction and sense of belonging pre-arrival, post-welcome and just before winter vacation.
