Student Enterprise '09 awarded High Impact Badge of Honour

Thu Apr 29 10:35:00 BST 2010

The Students’ Union flagship event for Global Entrepreneurship Week – Student Enterprise ’0 9 - has been awarded the High Impact Badge of Honour.

The award is presented in recognition of its positive impact on participants and the local community. Out of the 4,800 events run nationwide during the week only 240 received this special status.

Student Enterprise ’09 ran as an entrepreneurial skills competition for undergraduates and postgraduates at the University of Bath. They were invited to try out their business ideas in a real-life situation and see who could make the most money.

BANTER Bath Entrepreneurs, the University’s enterprise society, worked with the local council (B&NES) who supplied an empty shop in Bath city centre. Teams were invited to pitch their ideas to BANTER and those with the best ideas were rewarded with a £200 start-up loan and a day selling in the shop directly to the general public. SIFE Bath won by making the most profit with their charity doughnut sale and close runners up were The Bath Soup Company who went on to set up as a real business.

Siobain Hone, Student Enterprise Co-ordinator, said: “This competition inspired a lot of people and I hope it showed that enterprise education can be hugely rewarding as well as fun. It’s very gratifying to receive national recognition for what was a hugely collaborative effort across the University, Students’ Union and B&NES council.’
