You can get help and guidance on the skills you may require from the sites below and find out further details of the courses and training available.

Staff Development

The Staff Development Unit offer a programme of courses for Research Staff, full details of which can be found on the Staff Development web site (use the search box to search by Topic).

Learning and Teaching Enhancement Office

Enterprise training for research students is provided as part of the Skills Training Programme or contact Dr Tracey Stead, Postgraduate Skills Training Co-ordinator.



Students' Union

Through SORTED and BANTER, the Students' Union offers a range of business skills development courses, available to both undergraduates and postgraduates, many aimed specifically at supporting ideas generation, business planning and start-up.

The Business Plan Competition will also help competitors develop a range of skills from networking and writing business plans to presenting and pitching ideas.

BANTER run a national student enterprise conference every year in National Enterprise Week. Helping to organise this conference will help you develop essential entrepreneurial skills such as networking, marketing, winning finance and investment, event management and web development skills, and will connect you to national, entrepreneurial networks.

Careers Advisory Service

For students, the Careers Advisory Service’s Development Programme offers employer-led workshops in key business skills.
