Pharmaceutics
The group composes Pharmaceutical Technology, Biopharmaceutics and Pharmaceutical Biology. In pharmaceutical technology, there are strong interests in drug delivery and therapeutic/diagnostic monitoring, (particularly with respect to the lung and skin) as well as in inter-particulate interactions using atomic force microscopy, thermal and other spectroscopic methods. Modelling in formulation is being developed using chemometric/calorimetric techniques. In biopharmaceutics, there is focus on pharmacokinetics and in vitro /in vivo correlations in formulation science, and on developing artificial extracellular matrices for tissue regeneration. Biological aspects of pharmaceutics are complemented by on-going work in epithelial cell biology, in microbiology (including resistant extremophiles) and efforts to develop new therapeutic approaches in skin protection based on endogenous cellular defence mechanisms against oxidative (solar radiation) stress.
