Systems Medicine and Population Health

We advance drug delivery, precision health and medicine safety using innovative methods integrating bioinformatics and clinical data to improve equity and care.

About our division

Our division advances drug delivery, precision health, and medicines safety by integrating bioinformatics, clinical data, and health records. We improve vaccine equity, arthritis care, and medication safety while exploring oral and respiratory formulations, exosomes, neutrophils, microbiota, and novel oligonucleotide and inhaled antibiotic therapies. We link molecular biology and population data to drive better diagnostics, treatments, and public health.

Focus Areas:

  • systems medicine approaches linking molecular pathways to clinical outcomes
  • bioinformatics and computational modelling
  • epidemiology and pharmacoepidemiology
  • biomarkers and molecular diagnostics for personalised medicine
  • immunology and inflammatory disease mechanisms
  • population health analytics and health inequalities research
  • therapeutic development and drug delivery
  • translational research bridging bench to bedside and community health

Meet our researchers

Dr Helen McDonald is a senior lecturer in the Department of Life Sciences, here you can watch Dr McDonald discuss her research using anonymised health records to understand how we can best use vaccines to protect our health.

About us

We integrate molecular biology, pharmacology, pharmacoepidemiology and computational approaches to understand health and disease from molecular mechanisms and omics data to population patterns. By linking laboratory research with clinical and real‑world evidence, we improve diagnostics, therapies and public health, tackling chronic and autoimmune conditions and reducing health inequalities.
