Choosing to study MSc Marketing at the School of Management
I chose Bath because it's rated first in the UK for marketing (for its undergraduate courses) in The Complete University Guide 2026. The flexibility of choosing either a project or a dissertation on the MSc in Marketing really appealed to me.
And Bath is a beautiful and convenient city, close to London and Bristol, which was an important factor.
An intensive and memorable experience
My MSc course was intensive, with a lot to absorb in 12 months, and that’s exactly what I appreciated. At Bath, you work hard and gain a lot.
The course also helped shape my career direction. I had done part-time marketing work before, but it wasn’t until Bath that I learned the academic foundations of marketing. Each unit corresponds to real business functions.
What I enjoyed most was the people. I made lifelong friends, and the tutors were incredibly supportive both academically and professionally.
Despite being intense, the year was full of great memories. I still remember the nights when we sat around a table writing essays together, ordering pizzas at 1am, and pushing each other to do our absolute best.
I’ve carried forward strong academic writing and cross-cultural communication skills. Most importantly, I have a mindset of curiosity and openness to new ideas. This continues to shape how I learn and work today.
Accessing employability and careers support
In the very first week of my course, we had career sessions scheduled. These helped me to get oriented quickly. I used the University's career platform to check relevant job postings and visited the Careers Centre for CV support. The most useful resources were the alumni sharing sessions and visits from companies like Dyson and THG.
My career journey since graduating
I graduated in 2022 and I joined Bentley Motors two and a half years ago. I’ve worked across both Brand Experience and Communications. I started as a Customer Host, but I knew I wanted to take on more. With the support of my manager, I sought out additional projects. I got involved in exciting initiatives like the Extraordinary Journey event, global retailer training and several digital transformation projects.
My manager recognised my potential, so I was given the opportunity to do a placement in the Communications Team. I supported media content production and helped with major global media events.
In the long term, I see myself developing further in marketing strategy and PR communications. These areas excite me and play to my strengths.
My advice for someone in China who’s considering studying at Bath
If you’re looking for an easy one-year master’s, Bath is not the place for you. But if you want to make the most of a year to grow, discover your interests and challenge yourself, Bath will support you in every way.
The tutors will guide you, your classmates will inspire you, and the inclusiveness of the community will broaden your perspective.
