How Bath became a home away from home

Marketing MSc graduate Noor shares how studying at Bath helped push her out of her comfort zone.

Why I chose to study at Bath

Other than the University’s excellent academic reputation, the main reason I chose to study at Bath was because of the city itself. When I first visited, I was struck by how breathtaking it was. There’s no other city like it. There are always new places to visit, including plenty of beautiful parks and cafes, and I never got bored while studying there. It is also a very multicultural city, thanks to the University, which meant I got to meet people from all over the world.

How it felt starting my MSc

It was the first time I’d ever moved out of home. I’m the youngest in my family and have always had people to take care of me, so this was an opportunity to push myself far out of my comfort zone.

Thankfully, the first few weeks were very busy. There was always something going on and plenty of opportunities to meet new people. On the Marketing MSc course, there were exciting things happening throughout the year, like the Future Business Challenge, the Big Team Challenge and Practice Track. These opportunities not only made it easy to meet new people but also helped me develop the skills needed to succeed in the professional world. Those first few weeks at Bath were a huge time of growth for me.

How the School careers team supported me

The careers team are really kind, welcoming and supportive. Between them, they have decades of experience, and they’re more than willing to share it with you. It felt like I could go to them with anything – whether it was CV help, interview prep or simply getting a better understanding of the industry. When they didn’t have time to meet in person, they were always happy to jump on a quick video call or chat over email. They always did their best to help me as soon as possible.

My advice to someone about to study at Bath

You will never be the same person again after studying at Bath – that’s something you can bet on.

I would recommend making the most of your time at Bath. Really put yourself out there, take part in different things and say yes to every opportunity that comes your way. I recommend taking advantage of the extra-curricular activities related to your studies and those outside of them, like societies. I met two of my best friends while studying at the School of Management, and though we don’t live in the same country anymore, we still talk all the time.
