What I enjoyed most about the course
My favourite part of the MSc was the cultural diversity in my class. Collaborating with peers from various countries and backgrounds was a truly enriching experience. I came to appreciate the value of diverse perspectives, and how they challenge conventional thinking, broaden our understanding and lead to more well-rounded and creative solutions. This aspect of the course contributed significantly to both my personal and professional growth.
How the careers team supported me
As someone navigating the UK job market for the first time, I found the support from the School’s careers team incredibly valuable. From writing CVs and cover letters to applications and interviews, everything was new to me. The team provided guidance at every step.
Early in the year, they organised sessions on CV building, networking and using LinkedIn to develop a personal brand. These helped me build confidence. The option to book one-to-one appointments with career advisors was especially reassuring. It meant I always had someone to turn to for personalised advice.
Living in Bath
It was a truly memorable experience. I fell in love with the city’s charm and beauty. It felt like living in a postcard, with its stunning architecture and peaceful atmosphere. Beyond the picturesque setting, I built meaningful friendships and made memories that I’ll always cherish. Bath has become a special place for me. I know I’ll keep returning over the years to reconnect with those moments and the sense of belonging it gave me.
The skills I gained from the course
My MSc gave me several key skills, particularly in presentation, teamwork, critical thinking and time management. These skills proved invaluable when I stepped into my first role as a Packaging Compliance Account Manager. The fast-paced nature of the job required me to handle many tasks and deadlines at once. My time management skills proved essential.
My advice to MSc applicants
My best advice would be to prepare for a significant adjustment, especially balancing academic work, daily responsibilities and potentially part-time work. It can feel overwhelming at first, so managing your time effectively is key. I’d recommend limiting part-time work if possible, doing batch cooking and staying on top of coursework from the very beginning.
Also, your MSc experience can be shaped according to your goals. If securing a post-study job is a priority, start early. Explore opportunities, build your CV and engage with the School’s excellent careers team. Being proactive really makes a difference.
