My Route

Hello, my name is Monika and I’m a third-year PhD student in Psychology. My current research at the University of Bath is about pain and cognition. I study how pain affects our thinking, memory, and attention, and how these processes can change our pain experience.

My journey started with curiosity about what is going on in people’s brains, and how they produce all these complex behaviours. When I was your age, we didn’t have psychology at school, but Biology and Languages at A levels got me into Psychology at the University. That’s where I got a taste of psychology research and clinical work. Combining the two led me to the psychology of pain in which I got my Masters degree.
