Information about as-live webinars

As-live webinars run like live webinars, this page gives you more information about what to expect.

Factsheet

What is an ‘as‑live’ webinar?

We're using EverWebinar to deliver a high‑quality virtual event experience called an ‘as‑live’ webinar. Here's what this means:

Authentic, pre‑recorded presentations

An 'as-live' webinar is a recorded event that's presented as if it were happening live. You'll receive the same valuable content, presentations, and information exactly as if you were attending in real-time.

Real‑time support through live chat

During the webinar, you may have access to a live chat feature. This means that, although the presentations are pre-recorded, our team will be available live to answer any questions you have in real-time. You can engage, clarify your queries, and get immediate support throughout the session.

Simulated chat feature

To enhance your experience, we sometimes include simulated chat questions during the webinar. These generated questions are carefully selected to address common FAQs and help guide you through the session. You'll still have the ability to ask your own questions in real-time, ensuring you get personalised support.

Consistency of content

Please note, if you choose to watch a webinar more than once, you'll notice the session content remains exactly the same each time. This consistency ensures everyone receives the same accurate and detailed information, no matter when they attend.

Why not just provide the recordings?

By presenting sessions in an 'as-live' format, we combine the convenience of pre-recorded content with the interactive benefits of live engagement. This ensures you can easily access sessions at convenient times while still receiving immediate answers to your questions, enhancing your overall experience.

Is my data safe?

Yes, any data you provide to the University will be collected, used and stored in accordance with our data protection policy

Practical details for attending

Registration & access

The registration process is identical to a live webinar: follow the sign‑up link, choose a preferred session time, and you’ll receive the access link and instructions. No download is required everything runs in your browser.

Technical & device requirements

  • Browser‑based viewing only. You don’t need to install any software or app.
  • Compatible with modern browsers on desktop, tablet, and mobile devices.
  • Ensure you have a stable internet connection, ideally broadband or 4G/5G.

Chat & privacy reassurance

Your chat is private: you won’t see other students, and nobody else can message you. Occasionally, we may insert pre‑generated frequently‑asked‑questions into the chat to support a particular webinar session, helping answer common queries quickly.

Accessibility & closed captions

EverWebinar does not yet natively support closed captioning for pre‑recorded evergreen webinars. That means subtitles aren’t automatically available during playback. If captioning is needed, we recommend joining from Google Chrome, where students can enable Chrome’s built‑in Live Caption feature, which generates real‑time subtitles on your device.

Length & post‑event materials

Duration can vary depending on the topic just like live events. After the session, materials such as slide decks, handouts or links may be shared but this depends on the webinar itself.
