What is Relaxed Welcome Week and who is it for?
Starting university is an exciting time, but it can feel overwhelming. That's why we offer a Relaxed Welcome Week. This is a flexible induction for any new School of Management undergraduates who want a gentle transition to university life.
We've designed Relaxed Welcome Week to help you feel at ease in your new environment straight away. We want to create a welcoming, pressure-free environment where every student feels supported.
The timetable has been divided into:
- sessions that you must attend
- sessions that you should attend if possible
- optional sessions
You will need to follow your course timetable to find the timings of the sessions each day.
We’re here to help you every step of the way. You can get in touch with us using the email at the bottom of this page with any questions or concerns.
What to expect
Sunday: Relaxed Welcome
Optional
Your friendly Student Experience Officer Team will be here to meet you in the School of Management Building - 10 East on Sunday for a tour of the facilities, the opportunity to ask questions, meet other new first-year students, and find out exactly what will be coming up during Welcome Week.
Monday: Welcome to the School Talk
Should attend
In this session, you'll hear from the Dean of the School of Management, along with some other colleagues who'll provide a warm welcome to the School of Management community and talk you through the student journey here at Bath. The talk will be held in a tiered lecture theatre and will be recorded.
Monday: Campus Tour
Optional
Following your Welcome Talk, you can join a campus tour in small groups led by a current second-year or final-year student.
Monday: International Student Mixer
Optional
If you are an international student, you are invited to join a session led by our team, followed by a mixer to meet other international students. This will be held in a lecture theatre, and then the mixer will be in an open space outside the lecture room.
Monday: School of Management Quiz
Optional
Team up in a small group (five or six people) with fellow new students in a relaxed environment to flex your knowledge at a quiz in the School of Management Building Pavilion, which is a large open space. We will help with creating teams.
Tuesday: Director of Studies Talk
Must attend
Meet the Director of Studies (DoS) for your chosen course during this lecture-style session. Your DoS will provide all the key relevant academic information about the year ahead. The talk will be held in a tiered or flat lecture theatre and will be recorded.
Wednesday: Insights Talk
Should attend
Your dedicated Student Experience Officer will deliver a talk all about the undergraduate student experience and offer advice on how to make the most of all the incredible opportunities on offer here at Bath. You'll also hear from current students on your chosen course. The talk will be held in a tiered or flat lecture theatre and will be recorded.
Wednesday: Academic Advisor Meet and Greet
Must attend/make alternative meeting
We'll email you a time slot for you to meet your Academic Advisor. They will be your key academic contact to support you throughout your studies. This first meeting is usually in a group setting with their other new advisees, but you can contact your Academic Advisor if you would prefer to meet individually.
Thursday or Friday: Big Team Challenge
Should attend
The Big Team Challenge is an interactive session where you work alongside an employer. You will complete a problem-solving challenge set by an employer, based on a real-life case study, and work in small groups (six to eight people) with students from your course. We will allocate you to a group on arrival. The challenge ends with teams presenting their work to the group. There is no requirement to present individually. The session will be held in a flat classroom and will not be recorded.
Friday: Wrap-up talk
Optional
If you missed any of the talks throughout the week, you can receive all the key information in a relaxed environment in a smaller venue in the School of Management. This is an opportunity to ask any questions that you have about your studies, student life, or anything in between. The session will be held in a flat classroom and will not be recorded.
Week 1: Peer Mentoring Pizza Social
Should attend/make alternative meeting
We will allocate you two second-year or final-year students who will be your Peer Mentors. These are students who are on your course and understand what it is like to be in your shoes. You will be invited to meet your Peer Mentors one evening during your first week of teaching. Join an allocated table with your mentor group and meet some more people from your course. Ask any questions you have from your first week here. We will provide plenty of pizzas and soft drinks! You can email your mentors if you would rather meet individually or if you would rather ask your questions via email. The session will be held in the School of Management Building Pavilion, which is a large open space.
