ICHEM Writing Retreat

Join us for a day of writing.

Please consider joining us if you’d like to set aside a day, early in the new year, as a time to commit to new projects, progress existing ones, or get your paper submitted by a conference deadline.

All colleagues, PhD and doctoral students in the School are welcome, but this is particularly aimed at those with research interests that resonate with ICHEM themes and higher education (HE) contexts.

These include:

  • HE and strategy
  • Governance
  • Sustainability
  • Digitisation/AI
  • Inclusion
  • Global wellbeing
  • Research around business schools
  • Management learning/education

We have some old friends of the school visiting (Professors Shawn Berman of the University of New Mexico and Harry Van Buren, of the University of Tennessee).

Shawn and Harry are joining the retreat and will share their insights on productive writing, overcoming obstacles and the different roles in co-authoring teams.

We don’t expect to be over-subscribed but, if necessary, priority will be given to those earlier in their careers.

Further details

Most of the time (9am - 5pm) will be dedicated to time writing silently in the same room.  At the beginning of the day we’ll briefly identify a writing goal and at the end of the day we’ll reflect on what we’ve achieved and the writing process. 

There will be breaks for tea/coffee and lunch (all provided).  We’ll have a short lunchtime walk in the fields around campus, and a brief interlude with some speakers who will share their wisdom on being productive.
