We will consider your scholarships application at the same time as your MBA programme application.

Full criteria

1. Scope

1.1 These guidelines apply to new full-time or Executive MBA students taking up a place of study in 2022 who are identified by the University as eligible for consideration for one of the scholarships.

1.2 The allocation of funds is limited and so not all eligible students will receive an award.

2. Eligibility

2.1 These scholarships are only open to people who have been resident in the Western Gateway area or West of England for at least the last three years. Proof of residency will be required: Original council tax bills, utility bills or bank statements are acceptable. The Western Gateway area will be defined using the map on the Western Gateway’s website https://western-gateway.co.uk/

2.2 Applicants must also show that they have been made redundant, seriously professionally disadvantaged or have closed their own business since the start of the current Covid-19 global pandemic. The date for the start of the pandemic will be defined using the date on which the World Health Organisation declared a global pandemic, 11 March 2020.

2.3 It is the University’s responsibility to identify potential award recipients on the basis of these criteria, but the University cannot be responsible for any errors or omissions in the information supplied to it and on which eligibility decisions are based. The University’s decision on the interpretation of eligibility criteria is final and there is no right of appeal. You must comply with any requests for additional information to establish your eligibility within the timeframes specified.

3. Application and selection

3.1 Eligible applicants are invited to submit a supporting statement to apply for a scholarship. The supporting statement will require information on the following areas:

  • Explanation of how the current pandemic has impacted on your employment.
  • Challenges and ambitions related to accessing a particular career or onward destination following your MBA.
  • Confirmation that you have been resident in the Western Gateway region or West of England for at least the last three years.

3.2 These scholarships are discretionary. This means that even if you meet the relevant criteria you are not guaranteed one. The selection panel (as outlined below) will select recipients it deems to be the most deserving in its sole discretion. Their decision in this respect is final and there is no right of appeal.

3.3 In making their selection they will take into account the information you have provided in your application. You must meet all of the requirements for MBA study.

3.4 The selection panel will normally comprise the MBA Recruitment Committee plus members of the School’s Executive Board.

4. Funding

The scholarship will be applied to the tuition fees for the MBA programme. There is no cash alternative. Optional activities that incur additional costs are not covered by this scholarship. Food, accommodation and all other costs are not covered by this award so you must ensure you have sufficient funds to cover these costs.

5. Suspensions and withdrawal from studies

If you suspend, or are suspended, or if you withdraw from your studies, then your scholarship will become void. You may need to pay full fees up to the point of suspension.

6. Repeating, extending or deferring your studies

Awards will not be paid during any extension/repeat period(s). Awards are allocated for 2022 entry only. If you defer or withdraw and restart, any award already offered will become void.

7. Disciplinary action and fraudulent applications

The University reserves the right to withdraw an award from anyone who is found to have misled the University about any aspect of their eligibility.

8. Appeals

The University’s decision on the interpretation of eligibility criteria is final and there is no right of appeal. You may make a complaint if you believe that you have not been considered for an award because of a procedural error, or you believe that there has been some other procedural problem with our allocating and awarding system. You must comply with all requests for additional information to establish your eligibility within the timeframes specified and you must submit any evidence requested by the stated deadlines.

9. Use of data

All personal data is held securely by the University and will be treated in accordance with the Data Protection Act 2018. We will not divulge your information to any third parties.

Any queries relating to these terms and conditions should be addressed to the Bath MBA Admissions Team, University of Bath, School of Management, BA2 7AY or by emailing mbaadmissions@management.bath.ac.uk
