Doctoral Research Focus Weeks have been introduced to coincide with Research Focus Weeks to create some dedicated time for doctoral researchers to re-engage and re-focus on work associated with their doctorate. During these weeks, we will run a limited but focused programme of professional development activities and are encouraging Departments not to schedule any meetings.
Doctoral Research Focus Weeks for 2022-23 are:
- 9th-13th January 2023
- 8th-12th May 2023
Throughout these weeks, doctoral students are encouraged to use the co-working facilities in the Graduate Commons. Otherwise, we have a programme of in-person and online activities throughout these weeks to help you focus. Engagement with our activities is completely optional, though hopefully you will see the benefits.
Find out what is happening during the next Doctoral Research Focus Week, 9th-13th January 2023. Please note that some activities require a booking or application in advance.

|09:30 - 17:00||Doctoral Writing Retreat||Leigh Park Hotel, Bradford on Avon||Please apply for a place on the retreat|
The doctoral writing retreat is an opportunity for doctoral students to spend some time focusing on a piece of writing under the supervision of a facilitator, knowing that everyone else is there for the same thing. You'll set writing goals for the day, and you'll have approximately 5 hours of dedicated writing. We've chosen a calm and peaceful location for this retreat. You'll be given a free lunch, unlimited teas and coffees throughout the day, and there'll be an optional social in the evening.
