Using careers resources during my master's

MSc Management student, Xintong, talks about how she made the most of the Careers Service resources during her time at Bath.

Making time to plan for my career

My advice to a new student is to use the Careers Service resources as much as possible.

I know many students may be busy with their lectures and coursework, but I think it’s useful to spend some time reflecting on yourself and finding out what kind of job you want.

Support from my Careers Officer

I booked a meeting with the School of Management Careers Officer. They make different suggestions based on each person’s progress.

I did some mock interviews with them because I’d found it hard to show my abilities in interviews before. It was good practice for me, and the officer told me to reflect on my past experience to find links with the role and present my story in a logical way.

Advice for the future

My Student Experience Officer also gave me some very useful advice about questions that might be in a job interview. They said I might be asked to show teamwork ability, data analysis skills, and problem solving. It’s helped me to be more organised for my next interview.

I’ve become more resilient during my master’s and now I feel able to adapt to different situations in the future too.
