How to apply for a Leverhulme Early Career Fellowship

Find out if you're eligibile for the Leverhulme Early Career Fellowship scheme and how to apply.

The School of Management has agreed to support up to two applicants to the current Leverhulme Early Career Fellowship scheme. Proposals to this scheme require a 50% salary contribution by the School so we are limited on the number of applications we can support.

To choose the most suitable candidates based on the criteria of the Leverhulme and the strategic priorities of the School, we are holding a demand management process.

Who can apply

The fellowships are aimed at early career researchers who already have a research record but who have not yet held a full-time permanent academic post. The fellowship will allow them to undertake a significant piece of publishable work. The Trust will accept applications from candidates who submitted their doctoral thesis for examination after 23 February 2019 but will not be eligible if they won’t have submitted their thesis by 23 February 2023. Career breaks will be taken in to consideration as will major disruption from the Covid pandemic.

Fellowships are tenable for three years on a full-time basis (or pro-rata on a part time basis if this is necessary for health or other reasons). Applications will be considered in all subject areas except:

  • studies of disease, illness and disabilities in humans and animals
  • research that is intended to inform clinical practice or the development of medical applications
