We know starting university can be daunting. Living away from home, meeting new people and adapting to a new way of learning can be a cause of concern for many students.
But you're not alone. As a Bath student, you'll have someone to talk to no matter what worries you may face. From your first day on campus, you'll come to know the people whose job it is to be there for you through the difficult times - and celebrate with you through the good ones.

Student Experience Officers
As a School of Management student, you'll have a dedicated member of staff to support you.
We call them our Student Experience Officers (SEOs). It's their job to help you make the most of your time at university. You'll meet your SEO during your first week. They work on campus in the School building.
No question is too big or too small for your SEO. Some of the things they can help with include:
- settling into university life
- adapting to lectures and learning
- homesickness
- building familiarity with university systems and concepts
- imposter syndrome and feeling pressure to succeed
- balancing study with part time work
- tailored guidance for international students
They'll signpost you to other services at the University and support you to advocate for yourself.
Your SEO can help you to feel part of the community, grow in confidence and achieve your full potential. And if you just need a quick chat, someone is here for you. All you have to do is ask.

Employability support
Our School of Management Employability Team work to help you develop key skills and gain the relevant experience you'll need to apply for jobs after you graduate.
The team have connections with over 400 employers from a variety of sectors who you'll be able to meet at exclusive events. Every student can take a mock interview with an industry professional who'll give feedback and advice to aid your success.
You can also meet alumni who have studied at Bath, to help you see where you could be in the future.
Our team can also signpost you to other opportunities to develop transferable skills, like:
- internships
- micro-placements
- paid summer work experience on campus
If you choose one of our four-year degrees, our Placements Team will provide tailored one-to-one advice so you can:
- find the right placement
- complete your applications
- prepare for interviews and assessment centres
Each year, employers offer a lot of placement roles to Bath students only. Employers favour our students as they are consistently enthusiastic, reliable and well-prepared for work.
Our Placements Team can often introduce you to other students taking a placement in the same city or company, making it much simpler to find travel companions and housemates.
Academic support
When you join the University, we will assign you a School of Management academic staff member as your Academic Advisor. They act as a personalised point of contact, guiding your academic and professional development throughout your time at Bath.
Your Academic Advisor can help with:
- your transition into the University community
- your academic studies and progression
- unit choices, placement opportunities and future career plans
- guiding you to the right services if challenges are affecting your studies
They can also provide a reference for work experience, internships and placements, and for further studies or jobs after graduation.

Our School building has been built with facilities to encourage you to become the best you can be.
We've designed spaces where you can engage with other students, academics, support staff and employers. Throughout your time at Bath, you'll get to know the familiar faces of the School, including our reception, cleaning, café and security teams.

Peer mentor
We'll assign you a peer mentor before you start your studies. All our undergraduate peer mentors are students who've completed their first year, so they have the experience to talk through any concerns you have.
Academic skills support
Our academic skills team can help you develop the skills you need to reach your full potential, like academic writing, critical reading and presenting.
