Using the Related-content components in Typecase

How to use Related-content components to help people on the University website find more information about a topic.

When to use the Related-content component

Use the Related-content component to create a list of links at the end of a page to help people find other relevant pages on the University website.

You can use Related-content components on Guide pages to link to related Guides, and on Publication pages to link to related:

  • Corporate information pages
  • Guides
  • Legal information pages
  • Publication pages

Things to avoid

Don't use the Related-content components if you can link to the information from a relevant place on your page. It's easier for people to find links while reading your content rather than in a list at the end of the page.

Creating accessible content

You must make sure your content is accessible.

As a public sector body, we're legally required to make the content on our website as accessible as possible. The government checks our content to make sure it complies with the internationally recognised guidelines from the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C).

Find out more about accessibility or contact beta-content@bath.ac.uk if you have any questions.

What the Related-content component looks like

Related-content components appear below the main copy on a Guide, or under the attachments on a Publication page. The related content appears as a list of page titles with links to each page.

Finding the Related-content component

To find the component in a Guide or Publication template in Typecase:

  1. Open the drop-down menu under 'Bottom of page fixed-position components'.
  2. Select the component for the content type you want to list.
  3. Select 'Add component'.

The component will appear beneath 'Component(s) currently in use'.

You can add links for up to six published pages in each Related-content component.

You can only add links to pages which have the same content type as the component name. For example, you can only list Guide pages when using the Related Guides component.

To add a link:

  1. Add a section heading to the 'Title' field to let users know what the related pages are about.
  2. Type the title of the page you want to list into the search field.
  3. Click on a title to select a page.

The selected pages will appear in a list below the search box. You can drag and drop each page to change the order they appear in the Related-content section.

Typecase will automatically update content items listed in Related-content components if someone changes their title and URL.

Working in the template

Click 'Collapse this section' to minimise a Related-content component while you work on other areas of the page. The content will still appear on the preview and published pages if you collapse part of the template.
